PostSubject: How To Set Up Your Own Free Web Server In 5 Mins   How To Set Up Your Own Free Web Server In 5 Mins I_icon_minitimeSun May 02, 2010 7:19 pm

Step 1. Download wampwebserver [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Step 2. you need to configure your laptop or desktop to a static ip address by clicking on the windows start button and than clicking the network connections tab and if you on a wired connection click that or if on a wireless connection click that once you have it opened click the properties tab [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
and scroll down until you see the internet protocol TCP/IP [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] click that and than click properties now you need to click use the follow IP address and type this in for the Ip address use 192.168.0.15 and for the subnet mask use 255.255.255.0 and for the default ip address use 192.168.0.1 now for the DNS server part you are going to have to find what your preferred DNS and alternate DNS is and fill that out you can find what both of them are by opening your router software [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Step 2. open your router software (normally type in 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 into your internet explorer it will pop up with asking for a user name and password and the user name is admin and password is password) once you have the router software open you need to find the tab for port forwarding now you should see a scroll bar just click the one that says http :80 and when it brings up the box all you need to do is make it open for the 192.168.0.15 address this means open port 80 for the computer using the ip address 192.168.0.15
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Step 4. open the wampserver and click the apache tab and click the httpd.con
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

And delete everything in the text file and replace it with this

#
# This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file. It contains the
# configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
# See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2> for detailed information.
# In particular, see
# <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/directives.html>
# for a discussion of each configuration directive.
#
# Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
# what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
# consult the online docs. You have been warned.
#
# Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
# of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
# server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do *not* begin
# with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log"
# with ServerRoot set to "C:/Program Files/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2" will be interpreted by the
# server as "C:/Program Files/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2/logs/foo.log".
#
# NOTE: Where filenames are specified, you must use forward slashes
# instead of backslashes (e.g., "c:/apache" instead of "c:\apache").
# If a drive letter is omitted, the drive on which Apache.exe is located
# will be used by default. It is recommended that you always supply
# an explicit drive letter in absolute paths to avoid confusion.

#
# ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
# configuration, error, and log files are kept.
#
# Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path. If you point
# ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to point the LockFile directive
# at a local disk. If you wish to share the same ServerRoot for multiple
# httpd daemons, you will need to change at least LockFile and PidFile.
#
ServerRoot "c:/wamp/bin/apache/apache2.2.11"

#
# Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or
# ports, instead of the default. See also the <VirtualHost>
# directive.
#
# Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to
# prevent Apache from glomming onto all bound IP addresses.
#
#Listen 12.34.56.78:80
Listen 80

Step 3. start your wamp server by clicking the icon on your desktop once it loads up you want to click the put online button
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Step 4. Test to see if your server is working click the local host
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

also you want to go to [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and get your ip address and type that into internet explorer and see if it brings up your default apache webpage

If it pops up with the default apache webpage you are DONE afro

Now all you have to do is design a web page i would do it with Dreamweaver CS3 once you have a webpage designed just go to my computer/ local disk/ wamp/ www folder you will see your index.php file that is your default apache home page replace it with the php file you made with Dreamweaver CS3

The only thing left to do is get a domain name so people don't have to type your ip address in to find your webpage so what you want to do is go to godaddy like i did and buy a domain .com name once you did that just open your domain manger and set it up for ip adress hosting i would just call them and have them set it up

Or you can use a sub domain from Dyndns.com all you have to do is make a free account once its made you can pick a name like buyhomes and you will get a buyhomes.cc.com name

Any questions feel free to ask

Hi Cale,

When I click on the WampServer Icon on my Desktop no menues come up, nothing happens. I have gotten as far as the port forwarding. I am totally new at all this so I also don't know how to create PHP files and actually make a webpage.
